PROVOKING by Carrie
WARNING: You have no idea what you could be messing with! Do this at your own risk.
In case you don’t know, provoking is taunting or saying mean things to a ghost in an attempt to make it angry and “provoke” a response. It is a technique used by some paranormal investigators to possibly capture evidence from an angry spirit. I personally don’t like to provoke and feel it is a bad idea – but some investigators feel it is a good way to gain evidence that they otherwise would not capture.
Before provoking an entity, you want to make ABSOLUTELY sure that you AND the other members of your group are prepared for the possible consequences. NEVER provoke without everyone’s consent. There are stories of angry spirits physically attacking investigators who engage in provoking. Weather you believe those stories or not is irrelevant. Consider yourself warned!!
If you plan to conduct an EVP session and want to try provoking, start off as you normally would . . . introduce yourself as normal, start the conversation. Slowly move into a more negative topic of conversation. Again, don't forget to pause so that the entity can speak. As you go, come to a point in the conversation where you begin to openly doubt the existence of the entity. Examples: “if someone was really here – they would have the guts to give us a response.” Or, “What kind of cowardly person would terrorize a family?”
More extreme provoking includes: being really mean. Use profanity. Be negative. Some groups even try playing 'Good Cop, Bad Cop'. Argue back and forth to create negativity.
Good luck and be careful.
